Monte Vista Municipal Airport RUnway/taxiway design

Owned by the City of Monte Vista the Monte Vista Municipal Airport serves general aviation in the San Luis Valley. The airport has one paved runway and two dirt crosswind runways primarily used by agricultural spray planes.

The project had two focus areas: rehabilitation of the primary runway which had significant cracking and correcting a poorly designed connector taxiway by widening to taxiway design group II.

The APG team used a modification of standard for use of a mastic product to reduce cost of the runway pavement maintenance portion of the project. The project was completed 10% under budget and two weeks ahead of schedule.

The taxiway design was completed utilizing the draft design Advisory Circular, also with a modification of standard due to its draft status. By utilizing the new taxiway design standards APG was able to significantly reduce the amount of pavement required to ensure aircraft and plow trucks can make two sequential 90 degree turns on the connector taxiway.
